Our stars for 2007

Our four stars in 2007 shine brightly. All are beneficiaries of the Mother-Daughter Project, but now receive direct financial assistance. Two (Jeyapackiam and Poornima) have promised to help other needy students after they complete their higher education and obtain jobs.

Jeyapackiam is pursuing a university education (a three-year course at Mother Teresa University in Kodaikanal). She has decided to major in “physics” for her bachelor’s degree. She is an outstanding student who has already won prizes and certificates. Having been abandoned by her father and mother, for many years her grandmother has taken care of her. Assistance has been of substantial benefit to Jeyapackiam, permitting her to continue her studies and manifest her gifts.

Poornima is pursuing a two-year “Teacher Training course”. She is bright and committed, and is doing well in her studies. Her father and mother are landless coolie workers and not able to support Poornima’s education. With Forgotten Children’s assistance, she will succeed.

Karpagavalli comes from a village called Gandhipuram about 72 kilometers away from Kodaikanal. She is a tribal girl and a pride to her community as she studies well and works hard. Three years ago, she lost her father; her mother is a coolie worker. Karpagavalli is in 7th grade and hopes to fulfill a “Nurses Training Course” in a hospital in Trichy. In the whole tribal belt, she would be the first to complete this course, serving as role model for other tribal girls.

Annapackiam is a conscientious student who works hard. Her father, a coolie worker, does not help the family. Her mother is a sweeper. The family has no house or land of its own. Annapackiam’s goal is to obtain a bachelor’s degree in business from the Mother Teresa University. Her mother is unable to support her further studies, in part because she has two other daughters continuing their education.
