Volunteer Information

Thank you for your interest in volunteering for FORGOTTEN CHILDREN.  We are pleased to accept volunteers in the United States who can assist with fundraising and publishing (newsletter, brochure, and flyers).  However, at the present time, we do not have volunteers in India for several reasons:

1.      FORGOTTEN CHILDREN’s limited financial resourses are devoted primarily to community-based projects.  To keep our overhead at a mimimum, we do not have insurance for volunteers abroad and it is impossible for us to manage projects as well as be responsible for volunteers.

2.      FORGOTTEN CHILDREN is a grassroots non-profit organization, established in 1994.  We are a small organization with no full-time staff in the United States and a few part-time staff in India.  We are not set up to coordinate volunteers or manage them in the field.  Most of the women and children with whom we work speak different dialects and no English.  Not surprisingly, our limited staff does not have time to serve as a liaison between the local population and foreign volunteers.

3.      We do not want to discourage anyone who sincerely wishes to help.  Your enthusiasm, curiosity and determination are appreciated.  Although we are not able to offer you a volunteer opportunity with FORGOTTEN CHILDREN, we do encourage you to pursue your goal in another area where you could make a difference and learn a great deal.
Thank you for your interest.

Here are a few organizations that may be contacted for volunteer information.  Many more can be found with a simple Google search of the internet.
